The Proposal

Her side of the story
It happened in October 2011; Voke had just gotten a new apartment and was going to move in on his birthday that month. He had mentioned he wanted a birthday/house warming come chop with about 5 friends and I objected because I didn’t think it necessary.

However, October 9th came along and a party for 5 turned to twenty and counting. His friends came along with video games and a piano, the house turned out to be a play house and there I was running around making sure everyone just had something to eat (gnashing my teeth thinking Voke had some explaining to do once they were all gone).

Meanwhile, he had to cut his cake, and everyone’s attention was needed. Right after cutting his cake, he said he wanted to play the keyboard (this he does every now and then, only this time in front of a crowd). With a very amusing smile I stood in front of him while he played a tune to a song he had written by himself. He went off key and back, lol… but the words mattered most, I had a teary eye and so did a few peeps, he sang about how he cherished the friendship we had and the love we shared and was very certain he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. Yeah, I knew he says that all the time but that wasn’t just it, he continued the song saying many more nice things and then I noticed some movement, just when I thought the song had ended, here goes the “ will you marry meeeeee???” rounding up the song! Yep, he was down on one knee with a ring, he had just sang a proposal and I was all screaming and shouting!!
Oh! I was so excited I left him on one knee, he had to tell me to give him my finger at least, lol….

Singing to me with an audience was amazing, let alone proposing … I was startled!!! Filled with joy and surprise at how he had planned such yet so much in love with this wonderful friend of mine, I so said yes !!! and everyone clapped screamed and of course awwwweddd.

His side of the Story
At some point in my life I came to the realization that Kenny was “THE ONE” so I had to look for a befitting way to propose to her. After turning over several options I decided to have a couple of friends over on my birthday and do the needful. However just before the D day, the ring I ordered arrived and I wasn’t exactly satisfied with it. So I had to order another and pray earnestly that it arrived on time. Luckily it did and it was perfect. I had to give it to a friend for safe keeping because I couldn’t risk her seeing it before time (thanks Dumostick).

I didn’t expect the turnout for the party to be that much and I think at some point we ran out of food, I really cant remember because anxiety had started to set in. Thinking about it now, I am surprised I was nervous because everyone present were friends of mine, it wasn’t the first time I was going to sing for her and I was almost sure that her answer wasn’t going to be No. Bottomline is that I was nervous, so much so that I stumbled through my earlier carefully rehearsed and composed song. I barely made it to the last line..Would you marry me, went on my knees and the rest is history.
